I’m not sure if this is the best use of my computer, forget that. I’m positive this is why I started messing with computers 30 years ago and that’s computer games. Linux is really starting to get on the gaming band wagon. With commercial titles being released for Linux almost as fast as the Windows titles (just take a look at Enemy Territory Quake Wars if you don’t believe me. Thanks ID software for thinking of us Linux users). Even the casual game market is getting in on the act if you like high quality games like that take a look at Runes of Avalon I spent allot of time on this one.

By far the most exiting gaming for Linux is all the top notch Open Source and Freeware games out there. The three I play again and again are.
Those Funny Funguloids

It one weird title but it sure is allot of fun, it’s a deb so download and install today.
Next on my list is Grid Wars 2

Trust me on this, it’s a time killer. The sound on this one is great.
The next one is near and dear to my heart, I spent so much time on this game well the coin op game Tempest when I was a youngster.
It’s Typhoon 2001

So go get them and kill some time, Linux gaming is here and don’t let anyone tell you other wise.

First what is Landscape? Lanscape enables IT professionals to manage multiple systems as easily as they manage one. Deploy software updates, manage users, monitor performance, create reports and inventory hardware all from a central console.
I’ve been beta testing this remarkable software from Canonical for a few days now and all I can say is it does what it says it will do. We have been going back and forth where I work on just exactly what distribution we wanted for our desktops (I’ve wanted Ubuntu all along), but now that I’ve seen this tool I can’t think about using anything but Ubuntu. If you would like more info about the software follow this link.
Yes it’s still beta and there are a few things I’d like to see the most important to me would be remote desktop, something like LANDesk or Scriptlogic. But having said that being able to push updates, and security patches, system inventory, check on processes and even disk usage is just fantastic.
Keep up the good work Canonical can’t wait to see the finished product. Now to get purchasing to work on that support contract.

Our Ubuntu LoCo has been a labor of love, just 4 months ago there were just two of us, we now have 15 official members and more than that show up at our weekly IRC meetings. We’ve even been fairly successful in keeping an open dialog with our states LUG’S. It was sure great to see someone from the MVLUG (Mesilla Valley Linux Users Group) at the release party as I know that’s about a 4 hour drive from Las Cruces. A special thanks to the NMLUG (New Mexico Linux Users Group) for the encouraging emails I received from it’s members as I tried to organize the party.
The party was allot of fun and I can’t wait till our next face to face meeting.
Heres a picture of just some of the folks at the party

I’m sure this is being blogged all over the place and I sure as hell wish I wrote this but damn, this just about says it all.
” Tomorrow Ubuntu 7.10 launches, and with it a whole new era in Open Source operating systems. Sure, it may be just another Linux distribution but, make no mistake, 7.10 is the tipping point.”
Please check out all that Grant Robertson has to say, it really good
