Best Buy in Albuquerque, New Mexico has Ubuntu on the shelf.

Years ago I first bought slackware at a Hastings records and tapes (and apparently software) just because it was $9.99 and I heard that this new Linux thing was fun to play with. That single purchase all those many years ago launched me into Linux and I never looked back. Now Ubuntu is on the shelves of Best Buy’s all across America I can only hope that there will be one or two folks out there that have heard this Linux thing is allot of fun and think $19.99 is a bargain. It also looks like you get a little support too so it just might be a bargain. I’m glad to see it sitting right there amongst the out of control Windows display (really Microsoft do you need that much shelf space, you would think their selling breakfast cereal).

That’s definitely the idea. Hopefully there are people out there browsing the shelves of Best Buy who will think “Hmm, I’ve heard that Ubuntu mentioned, and at only 20 USD with some support to get me up and running it’s a bargain!” I don’t know if I should be pleased it was in your local store, or disappointed they hadn’t all sold out!

Move it over to a more visible space while you’re at it.
